Mateson Chemical Corporation was founded in 1953 as a Textile Adjuncts Corporation by Jean F. Mateson, an innovative applications chemist. The change to its current name took place in 1978 as the company moved from New York to Philadelphia. All of our products are MADE IN THE USA.
Originally, Director of Basic research for the Airkem Corp., Jean F. Mateson left there to pioneer solutions and techniques for fire and disaster restoration remediation, pollution control and indoor environmental air quality.
Industry approached Jean throughout the years for help with solving real-world industrial problems; he developed viable products and processes for Airkem, Inc. (Airwick), Shulton, Inc. (Old Spice), Voltube, Inc., and Budd Corporation (insulation), Clean Air Technology, Liberty Industries (laminar Flow and clean rooms), and Budd Corporation (railroad air systems).
Mr. Mateson was a leader in development of pollution control remediation treatments for scores of applications including the textile industry to control the emissions of formaldehyde gas, released during textile finishing processes. Formaldehyde neutralant systems developed by Jean F. Mateson in the 1960's are still in use today, by the textile industry around the world. In fact, formaldehyde gas emissions from chemical processes, such as the manufacture of building materials especially foam insulation, gasing even months or carpets, plywood and textiles are thought to be a source of allergic reactions in sensitive people due to continuous off-gassing even months or years after manufacture.
Later, Mr. Mateson developed a complete line of remediation solutions for the "hazmat" field; techniques for dealing with environmental toxins such as ammonia spills, asbestos, PCPs, hydrogen sulfide odors and lead paint were thought of and put to use by Mr. Mateson. Years ahead of their time, Mateson Chemical Corporation products are exported internationally, and are distributed in Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Mexico, UAE, and the UK, etc. Our products are depended on to perform throughout the globe. The World Trade Center bombing, IBM Corporate headquarters fire, and the Utah Governor's Mansions fire remediation projects are just a few examples of the massive product use in the USA. Mateson's Bad Air Sponge has improved the indoor air environment on all Amtrak passenger trains in the USA for over 20 years, as well as New Jersey Transit, Metro-North and other passenger trains systems as well.
In 1995, Jean F. Mateson was posthumously honored by NIFRR (National Institute of Fire Restoration), receiving The Martin King Award for exceptional service and dedication.
Today, Mateson Chemical Corporation continues Jean's dedication to innovation for environmental problem solving. We have years of experience working with industry and the consumer base, researching and applying practical solutions to difficult environmental problems. MCC provides practical remedial products for industry and home.
